On 1st July 2009, the Government introduced Warm Up New Zealand: Heat Smart, a programme aimed at making older New Zealand homes (those built before 1 January 2000) warmer and more energy-efficient. To achieve this, the programme provides funding for installed insulation, clean heating, and other energy-efficiency measures. How much funding is on offer?
From 1 July, the EECA "Warm Up New Zealand: Heat Smart" programme will pay homeowners and landlords (without Community Services Cards):
33% of the cost (to a maximum of $1,300 incl GST) of installing ceiling and underfloor insulation - both must be installed to get the funding;
and/or
A one-off grant of $500 incl GST towards an EECA-registered heat pump in the primary living area once your ceiling and underfloor insulation meet the level specified by EECA.
Note that insulation and a heat pump can be purchased at the same time, and the funding combined. However, insulation funding cannot go towards a heat pump installation or vice versa. Concrete floors and inaccessible ceiling areas do not need to be insulated.
What is the eligibility criteria?
The house must have been built prior to 1 Jan 2000.
